This model serves both regular education and special education students across the learning continuum. The purpose of the model is to help students develop the basic socialization skills needed to be successful both in school and later in life. The 3 basic components of the model are:

1. Social skills component : implementation of a social skills curriculum which is taught daily.

2. Behavior management: students develop a cognitive understanding of how pro-social behaviors can benefit them thru developing a connection between their behavior and the consequences of that behavior thru the consistent use of consequences and discipline procedures. Consistent skills teaching along with consistent consequences helps students learn skills to gain maximum benefit from their educational experiences.

3. Behavior intervention program: the intensive intervention program is composed of a set of instructional components including procedures for:
1. de-escalating disruptive behavior
2. teaching self-control
3. teaching alternative or replacement behaviors and
4. preparing students for re-entry to the classroom.
The goal of the program, unlike many discipline policies is the return of the student to the classroom.
